NECCA joins forces with private and public sector at national, European and worldwide level in an attempt to consolidate knowledge, leverage financial resources and promote an integrated approach on nature conservation. This is achieved through participation in EU funded projects, consortiums, memorandum of understanding with private and public sector institutes, academy, and NGOs.

For the first time at such scale, an environmental project aims to address the threats that affect nine vulnerable marine species (the Mediterranean Monk Seal, the Loggerhead Turtle, the Green Turtle, the Sperm Whale, the Harbour Porpoise, the Cuvier’s Beaked Whale, the Common Dolphin, the Yelkouan Shearwater and the Audouin’s Gull) and significantly contribute to the conservation of marine biodiversity in Greek waters.
Biological diversity or biodiversity refers to the variety of existing life forms, «embracing» all life on the Planet: plants, animals and microorganisms, the genes they contain, the ecosystem types that they form.
Monitoring biodiversity is essential for its protection and conservation. Biodiversity data is a cornerstone in the effort to halt biodiversity loss and reverse ecosystem degradation.

Natura 2000 sites are the heart of nature conservation in Greece and the European Union. They serve as a protecting shield of life for endangered species and areas of high conservation value, ensuring a fair balance between people and nature.
To improve the management effectiveness of marine protected areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean, France, Monaco, Tunisia and Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation launched the initiative of an environmental fund dedicated to Mediterranean MPAs: The MedFund, created in 2015.
The overall aim of the LIFE PanPuffinus! project is to improve the conservation status of the Yelkouan Shearwater and the Balearic Shearwater by tackling threats at land and sea through transboundary collaboration.
The LIFE-TRANSFER project aims to trigger the process of recolonization of aquatic phanerogams in selected Mediterranea lagoons through the transplanting of small sods and rhizomes of Zostera marina, Zostera noltei, Ruppia cirrhosa and Cymodocea nodosa. In each lagoon, the species previously present will be transplanted, to promote the natural propagation capacity through seed production and dispersion.
The intervention technique provides transplantation exclusively by hand with a reduced amount of material from donor sites, with advantages in terms of environmental impact, costs and of application on a larger scale.
By joining forces and becoming the major source of financing of collaborative projects protecting the Mediterranean monk seal throughout its range, the MSA supports the concerted action needed to make lasting impact for this iconic species.
The Natural Heritage Mission of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme focuses on protecting, restoring and valorising the natural resources of the Euro-Mediterranean area. Two governance projects work in close cooperation to upscale knowledge and results produced at the European level, and to transfer and mainstream them into effective policies.
The integrated project «LIFE-IP AdaptInGR – Boosting the implementation of adaptation policy across Greece» is the most important project for adapting Greece to climate change.
The project aims to catalyse the implementation of the Greek National Adaptation Strategy and of the 13 Regional Adaptation Action Plans at the current 1st adaptation policy cycle (2016-2025) and to prepare the passage to the 2nd adaptation policy cycle (2026+), through appropriate action at national, regional and local levels.
ARSINOE is an EU-funded project aimed at creating climate resilient-regions through systemic solutions and innovations. ARSINOE will shape the pathways to resilience by bringing together the Systems Innovation Approach (SIA) and the Climate Innovation Window (CIW) to build an ecosystem for climate change adaptation solutions. This approach is showcased in nine demonstrators, as a proof-of-concept with regards to its applicability, replicability, potential and efficacy.
