Lake Kerkini – Krousia – peaks of Beles – Agistro – Charopos

Lake Kerkini is found in the north-west part of Serres Prefecture. The first dam was constructed in 1932 in the waters of river Strymonas and since then it gradually formed to the lake’s shape. Its unique wetland has been declared a National Park according to Ramsar Convention and it is one out of ten wetlands of International Importance of Greece. Furthermore it is known as one of the best places in Europe for natural watching of about 300 rare and protected bird species that live and breed here (Important Bird Area).
