The integrated project “Implementation of the Circular Economy in Greece LIFE-IP CEI-Greece – (LIFE18 IPE/GR/000013)” aspires to contribute to the implementation of the National Waste Prevention Program (NWPP) and the National Strategy for the Circular Economy. This project highlights a new concept in the field of waste based on the principles of the circular economy, adopts practices and behavioral changes to increase the life cycle of products, transforms waste into resources and effectively implements the legislative package for Waste.
The project is ongoing, its total duration is eight years (01/11/2019 – 31/10/2027) and is divided into four two-year phases. The project budget is 15,934,810€ and is co-financed by the European Union (60% –9,560,739€) and the Green Fund. The estimated total cost of participation of the N.E.C.C.A. in the program amounts to 444,837.00€.
The Actions included in the program include: A. Preparation, C. Implementation, D. Monitoring the Impact of the project, E. Awareness & Dissemination of its results and F. Management Actions & Monitoring its progress. The participation of N.E.C.C.A. concerns all Actions and in particular Actions A1, C7, D1, D2, E1, E2, F1. Of the overall Actions in the program, the largest part A has been completed, while the other Actions are ongoing. N.E.C.C.A. is a leader in Action D1 (Development of Circular Economy indicators at national level and for important economic sectors as well as value chains), which was successfully completed, and remains a leader in Action D2 (Monitoring of Circular Economy indicators at national level and for important sectors as well as and value chains).

More specifically, regarding the deliverables related to the Actions in which N.E.C.C.A. was actively participated: D1.D1. (Overview of bibliography of circular economy indicators, D1.D2. (Indicators, methodologies and data collection protocols/sources for monitoring the circular economy in Greece) and D1.D3 (Circular Economy Observatory).
Regarding N.E.C.C.A., the preparatory Actions A have been completed, and in particular as a leader, Action D1 (Development of Circular Economy indicators at national level and for important economic sectors as well as value chains) has been completed. More specifically, the bibliographic review of Circular Economy evaluation indicators at the macro and meso-economic level, the national Circular Economy monitoring plan and the preparation of its draft were successfully completed. Action D2 aims to provide the necessary measurement indicators to monitor the implementation of the National Strategy for the Circular Economy.
As mentioned above, Action D2 is a continuation of D1 and its objective is the application of methodologies to measure the indicators of circular economy, which have been developed, with the aim to effectively monitor the way in which the tools and principles of the circular economy are integrated into the Greek economy. At the same time, its purpose is to provide the necessary knowledge to policy makers, using circular economy indicators from other EU countries as a point of reference.
